Abstract
Statins are a class of lipid-lowering agent which reduce cholesterol synthesis by inhibiting 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase. A number of statins, atorvastatin, fluvastatin, lovastatin, pitavastatin, rosuvastatin, pravastatin, and simvastatin, are on the market and used worldwide. They are known as safe drugs and incidence of rash and allergic reactions has been reported to be 7.7%. However, studies of allergic cross-reactivity to multiple statins are still insufficient. We report a case of a patient with pruritus which initially occurred after starting statin therapy and persisted even after changing the statin to different kinds.
